The reason why polytechnic lecturers started warning strike on Monday 30th January 2017.

The academic staff Union of polytechnics (ASUP) started a week strike on Monday 30th January 2017. The strike is protest against governmental refusal to honor its agreement with the union to fund the polytechnics sector. Usman Dutse, ASUP national President Comrade said in a statement after an emergency National Executive Council meeting of the union in Abuja, that the union had earlier given the government an ultimatum in July 2016. He said despite the magnanimity of the union, the government failed to address the issue raised by the union include poor funding of public polytechnics, deliberate attempt to frustrate the resolution of the meeting of the council on the establishment in July 2016 and victimisation of some union members
